Cleanse Day Four: Crack Is Whack, But My Electrolyte Mix Isn't

Today. Was. Awesome.

No headaches. No stomachaches. Crazy amounts of energy throughout the day.  I even went for a run after work, which I have not done in WAY too long.

Basically I have no good reason to bitch and moan about my fourth day on this cleanse. Dare I say I'm over the hump?

I even met my 128 oz water requirement at 6:07pm today thanks to the new water tracking app I downloaded on my phone last night - I'll tell you more about the app in a minute. Usually I'm still chugging water before bedtime to sneak it all in, but not today.

Today I made that 128oz of water my bitch!

Now about that app...

Meet WaterMinder

Since I've had a little problem keeping track of how many bottles of water I drink during the day I decided to search the iTunes App Store to see if I could find something that would help me log it.

I think I heard angels sing and doves cry when my search revealed WaterMinder.

WaterMinder is a simple & intuitive app that helps you track your water intake. Based on your body weight (or your personal goal), WaterMinder will remind you to drink water to reach your daily goals.

Let me start by saying there are some bugs with the WaterMinder app.

Though you're supposed to be able to customize, I had an issue changing my water intake goal from the pre-set amount of half my weight to the 128oz I need to drink for my cleanse, but I was smart enough to figure out how to correct this by changing my weight in the settings to 256pds so the app would automatically set my goal to 128oz.

Another issue I've noticed is my "Reminders" have yet to go off, but that's not really a deal breaker for me since I'm basically drinking water all day long so I don't need a reminder.

Now that I think about it, maybe the reminders didn't go off because I was so on top of my water game today, logging my water intake too frequently for it to even trigger a reminder.

How about them water-logged apples?!

Despite those bugs I'd still recommend WaterMinder to anyone that needs to track their water intake.

Here's what I love about it:

  • The home screen displays your current water fill in % as well as filling the image of your "body" up with blue water detailing your progress for another visual
  • The interface is super simple to use (just tap each icon and a menu opens with your options to log/track your water intake)
  • Pre-defined cups for quick tracking, plus you can create custom cup sizes
  • There's a History and Graph to see your progress through the day
I was a bit nervous before my run this evening since I was doing it on an extremely empty stomach. Last time I attempted that I almost passed out mid-run.

Ever since that debacle I force myself to have a snack before doing any running, but I couldn't do that today due to the restrictions of my cleanse. Unfortunately I didn't plan very well and ate my allotted snacks between meals earlier in the day.

In an effort to give myself a boost of energy and hopefully keep myself from keeling over on the local fitness trail, I added a program approved orange-flavored "electrolyte mix" to my water bottle before I left and chugged for my life.

Holy shitballs did that stuff give me energy!

It's odd because I've added it to some of my morning shakes during the cleanse just so I could have more of a variety in flavors, but didn't really feel like it gave me a boost in energy. I'm not sure if it was because I only mixed it with water today, or if it was because I had an empty stomach, but it seriously powered me through my 30 minute run.

I was pumped as hell when I stepped my sneakers on that trail.

I'll definitely be using it consistently before any workouts.

If you want to find out more info about it, feel free to shoot me an email so I can give you more details and let you know where you can buy it.

So I had a vanilla shake for breakfast, a chocolate shake for lunch, a hard boiled egg for a snack and then dinner was leftovers from last night - which tasted just as amazing today. I switched my salad to red lettuce this evening and then sautéed the baby spinach I normally use in my salad with some olive oil, lemon and garlic for an extra side with my meal.

Hey, I deserved the extra side for rocking Day Four of this cleanse!

Check back in with me tomorrow to see what Day Five brings...
